HIV/AIDS Services & Prevention Program:
Housing and Health Care for Homeless Families and Individuals
with HIV/AIDS
Last year, the HIV/AIDS Services & Prevention Program assisted more than 350 homeless individuals and families with HIV/AIDS in programs that provided access to health care and appropriate housing. Our outreach and education programs reached hundreds more.
The intersection of HIV and homelessness creates a particularly dangerous situation for the individual affected. Without stable housing and a safe place to prepare medications, it is almost impossible to effectively manage a treatment regimen. Our HIV/AIDS Services & Prevention Program provides comprehensive services for homeless adults and families living with HIV or AIDS, beginning with crisis intervention to remove obstacles to permanent housing and stabilize health care. It provides individual and group counseling in English and Spanish, workshops on health care, housing, and independent living skills, family and bereavement counseling, and civil legal services. Most important, the Program enables over 125 individuals and families affected by HIV/AIDS to move into permanent, affordable housing each year.
