On June 20, 2011, the Partnership for the Homeless held On Summer's Edge: An Evening of Music & Celebration at Frederick P. Rose Hall, home of Jazz at Lincoln Center to benefit the Campaign for the Family Resource Center. The event was hosted by world renowned opera artist Jessye Norman, with Emmy Award Winning ABC News Anchor Sade Baderinwa as co-host, and spectacular performances by Mingus Dynasty, Dance Theatre of Harlem Ensemble, and Grammy and Tony Award Winning Artist Dee Dee Bridgewater. View photos of the event on our Flickr page.

The evening began with a festive cocktail reception in the Atrium before guests were escorted to The Allen Room, where a wall of glass provides an iconic backdrop of Central Park and the Manhattan skyline. A program of jazz, dance, and poetry celebrated the resilience of New York City families confronting homelessness and affirmed the importance of nurturing the dreams of all people, especially children. With many in the audience declaring the evening entertaining and inspiring, and proceeds that helped us exceed our $200,000 goal for the first phase of The Campaign for the Family Resource Center, we can safely call the evening a rousing success.

The Campaign for the Family Resource Center is seeking to raise significant private support for our work to go beyond crisis response and help families and individuals create lasting change in their lives. Proceeds from On Summer's Edge allow the Partnership to dedicate more staff and programming to help families avoid homelessness.

We thank our sponsors, shown here, without whose support On Summer's Edge would not have been possible.
