The Partnership for the Homeless

Danish Social Work Interns Supporting our HIV Efforts

Three social work interns - Julie, Katrine & Sarah - from the Metropolitan University College in Copenhagen, Denmark are currently working at The Partnership for the Homeless' (PFTH) Positive Step Program. Their focus is on international and intercultural social work.  They are increasing our skills to provide services to a diverse population and expand our understanding of the cultural and political contexts of social work. We are discerning similarities and differences in working with homeless HIV-positive individuals here in NYC as compared to in Copenhagen. They also are working to understand the legislative and health care systems shaping social work in the United States.

As a part of Positive Step’s team, they are participating in a variety of tasks including case management, group work, and outreach. Our direct contact with clients allows us to utilize our knowledge about theory and methods in practice, and, therefore, grow professionally in our careers. They are spending five months at the PFTH and taking our experiences and skills back to Denmark.
