The Partnership for the Homeless StaffArnold S. Cohen, President and CEO Arnold Cohen was named President and Chief Executive Officer of the Partnership for the Homeless in June 1999. Arnold joined the Partnership after serving five years as Executive Director of Queens Legal Services. Prior to that, he was Director of Litigation at Bronx Legal Services Corporation and affiliated with the Legal Aid Society (Trial Bureau, Appeals Bureau and Special Litigation Unit). He is active on many nonprofit boards, and serves Chair of the New York AIDS Coalition. An Adjunct Professor of Law at Fordham University since 1987, Arnold holds a BA in Anthropology from New York University and a JD from Brooklyn Law School. Jerry Arko, Vice President of Human Resources Jerry Arko has been with the Partnership for the Homeless since 1993. He has held similar positions in the for-profit sector, with an engineering consulting firm and a film distribution and production company. He has served on the Board of the Human Resources Association of New York and the local chapter of the Society for Human Resource Management. He has a BA from Queens College, City University of New York. Catherine A. Carpentieri, Vice President of Development and Communications Catherine Carpentieri has over twenty years of experience in nonprofit development, with a focus on major individual giving, institutional giving, and direct response fund raising. Catherine was most recently Director of Development and Marketing at Human Rights First. Prior to joining Human Rights First's staff, Catherine was the Deputy Executive Director for Development at Amnesty International USA for twelve years and a member of the organization's senior management team. Under her management, the development office raised 95% of the organization's $40 million budget annually. Catherine holds a B.A. in English and American Literature from Hofstra University. Scott Cotenoff, Senior Vice President of Programs and New Initiatives Scott Cotenoff joined the Partnership in October, 2008 and has over 20 years’ experience in the nonprofit and public sectors. Scott’s prior experience includes management roles at the HIV Advocacy Project (part of Queens Legal Services), the Children’s Hope Foundation, and the NYC Department of Health’s Child Health Initiative. Scott holds a B.S. in Political Science from Duke University, a J.D. from Boston University School of Law and a Masters of Public Health from Hunter College. He is currently an adjunct professor at the New School University, with a focus on nonprofit management, organizational development and advocacy. Leyla Gulcur, Vice President of Research Leyla Gulcur, Ph.D., joined the Partnership as Director of Research in 2006. Prior to that, she was Director of Research at Pathways to Housing. Other previous work included research, advocacy and social policy development in international women’s health and human rights issues. Leyla has expertise in a variety of areas including housing and homelessness, mental health, sexual and reproductive health, domestic violence and international migration. She is also an Adjunct Professor at New York University, where she teaches psychology. She holds a B.S. from Duke University and a Ph.D. from New York University. Karim A. Parchment, Vice President of Finance and Administration Karim Parchment joined the Partnership in August 1999 with ten years’ experience in financial management, accounting and budget preparation in both the public and private sectors. Prior to joining the organization, he served as Director of Finance and Operations of Queens Legal Services. Karim holds a BA in General Accounting from the University of the West Indies and an MBA in Finance/Management from St. John’s University. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the New York State and Delaware State Societies of CPAs, the Institute of Certified Management Accountants, the International Federation of Accountants and the American Management Association. |
